This is a Remote Instructor Led Series (RILS) training. The remote classroom delivery is a modality that takes advantage of the instructor led training content, while allowing the same content to be delivered remotely. All training sessions will be delivered online with no face-to-face classroom attendance.
The Petrel Geophysical Interpretation course is designed to provide a detailed hands-on learning experience on the fundamental workflows inherent to the geophysics domain and their application in Petrel:
The course will be delivered over a total of twenty-five (25) Hours; i.e. in five (5) sessions lasting four (5) Hours each.
Each participant will need the following for an optimal experience of the course:
Session 1: Modules 1 & 2 (Part 1)
(5 Hours)
In this first session, the participants will first learn how to set up a new seismic interpretation project and load seismic data. Then, after reviewing the tools used to quality check the data, they will learn how to visualize and optimize the data imported and improve the performance.
Day 2Session 2: Modules 2 (Part 2) & 3
(5 Hours)
After completing the module dedicated to Data preparation, the participants will discover and apply the procedures for checkshots data loading and quality control, well logs preparation for the seismic well tie workflow and time-depth relationships generation. This session will also cover the theory, tools and methods for performing the sonic calibration process in Petrel.
Day 3Session 3: Modules 4 & 5
(5 Hours)
Seismic-to-well tie is key at any stage of the development of a field. It is an essential step of the seismic interpretation workflow. In addition to bridging the gap between the time and depth domains, it also plays a key role in the wavelet extraction process involved in seismic inversion for reservoir characterization workflows. In this session, the participants will learn about generating synthetic seismograms and wavelets in Petrel. They will also review and get familiar with the tools and functionalities to start and perform seismic interpretation in optimal condition.
Session 4: Modules 6 & 7
(5 Hours)
There is no correct attribute or interpretation to use on seismic. It depends on the type of geological features that the interpreter tries to identify. In this session, typical and advanced seismic attributes and techniques available in Petrel and specifically adapted to three (3) different geological environments will be covered: channel, faulted, and salt environments. After learning about these, the participants will also learn and apply the procedures, tools and functionalities dedicated to faults interpretation in Petrel.
Day 5Session 5: Modules 8 & 9
(5 Hours)
This final session will focus on the techniques, functionalities and procedures for interpreting horizons in Petrel. The participants will also learn about mapping the horizons interpreted, basic velocity modeling and domain conversion in Petrel.
Exploration and Development Geophysicists, Geologists and Geoscientists working with Seismic data.
General knowledge of petroleum geophysics and geology as well as elementary software skills are recommended.
Petrel Fundamentals, Getting Started with Petrel eLearning or familiarity with Petrel Interface and core functions is necessary.
