Chemical Methods for Enhanced Oil Recovery with Eclipse - (Remote Instructor-Led Series)

This training course presents the Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (CEOR) methods available in the Eclipse simulator.

When using CEOR, chemicals such as surfactants, alkaline solutions, and polymers are added to the displacing water. This changes the physicochemical properties of the water and the contacted oil, making the displacement process more effective. The three main approaches are the use of surfactants, alkaline, and polymers.

In surfactant flooding, the interfacial tension between the oil and the displacing water, and the interfacial tension between the oil and the rock interfaces are reduced so that residual oil can be displaced and recovered.

In alkaline flooding, the reaction of the alkaline compounds with the organic acids in the oil forms in situ natural surfactants that lower the oil-water interfacial tension. Polymers are used to increase the viscosity of the displacing water to improve the oil sweep efficiency.

Examples using these different recovery methods are further covered using Eclipse.
