Pumps or compressors are used in production facilities to move liquid or gas from a low pressure location to one of a higher pressure. Gas compressors are used in oil and gas fields with many applications such as gas boosting, gas lift, gas re-injection, and vapor recovery systems. Pumps are mainly used in oil boosting, water injection, and oil movement.
This course will provide an in-depth perspective on how compressors transport the fluids from production sites to conditioning and processing centers, then the sell point. This course will also provide an in-depth perspective of pumps and compressors classification, design, the basic principle for selection, operation and performance for a variety of scenarios and conditions. The properties and behavior of the oil and gas, as well as the equipment and transportation associated to the gas compression and oil pumping systems will be covered.
Fundamentals of Oil and Gas
This course will begin with an industry overview, then continue on to the basic concepts and fundamentals of oil and gas systems. The chemistry of oil and gas, natural gas composition, and gas specifications will be discussed. Pumping systems at production facilities and the types and applications of pumping systems will be covered at the end of the day.
Day 2
Pumping and Oil Storage Systems
Day two of this course will focus on pumping systems and oil storage systems. Pump design selection, operation, application, and performance will be discussed, along with pump installation, operation, and maintenance considerations in the design. Participants will get the chance to see a simulation of pumps. The day will continue with oil storage systems and the codes and considerations that go along with them. Safety, environmental, and regulatory considerations will be discussed, as well as codes and standards relating to oil handling and transportation.
Day 3Gas Compressor System
On this day participants will learn about gas compression systems at a production facility. Equipment, thermodynamics, types of compressors, and applications will be discussed. Participants will also learn about the selection criteria of dynamics and the positive displacement compressors. Compressor thermodynamics and operating characteristics will also be covered.
Day 4Compressor Systems (Cont.) and Gas Transportation Systems
Day four will continue the discussion of compressor systems to include the installation, operation, and maintenance considerations in the design. Gas transportation systems will also be discussed on this day, specifically covering codes and considerations. Participants will also learn about the safety, environmental, and regulatory considerations for gas transportation systems. The day will end with a discussion on standards related to gas handling and transportation.
Day 5Field Trip and Final Test
On the last day, participant will be taken on a field trip. Before the final test, participants will be given exercises to practice the skills they have learned during this course.
Process engineers, mechanical engineers, instrumentation and control engineers, and surface facilities project engineers.
An awareness of the surface production facilities.
