Develop measurable skills and capabilities
Electricity is a mainstay and the backbone of oil and gas operations. Whether it is transmitted from external sources or generated on-site, it is used to provide the power required by the systems and equipment that are associated with the daily operations of the plant. Given the various uses and power levels required, working with electricity is dangerous and as such needs to be subject to strict guidelines to ensure a stable and safe environment for all personnel.
This course has been designed to provide participants with an understanding of the safety structure and protocols required when working in an electrical environment. Emphasis will be placed on the need for ensuring constant and continuous adherence to these processes and to ensure the safety of all personnel working within the operating area.
Upon completion of this course, participants will gain an understanding of the criticality and purpose of the policies and procedures associated with electrical systems and equipment. Having this knowledge will help each technician develop confidence and professional enthusiasm, therefore, increasing their efficiency. The knowledge that technicians gained from this course will be further expanded by on-job training and practical experience they will receive throughout the duration of their career.
Internal Process and Controls
On the first day, participants will be introduced to the importance and purpose of policies and procedures guiding electrical systems and associated equipment. The discussion will include level of responsibility as well as the implication of non-compliance. The day will continue with exploring the use of proper communication and appropriate signage and notices. The day will wrap up with a dialogue on the need, purpose and importance of workplace audits relating to compliance.
Day 2Electrical Awareness and Safety
Discussion on the second day turn to the significance of electrical standards and rules. The participants will learn how work is planned, communicated and completed to align with proper processes and ensure safety. The course concludes with discussions on the differences in application associated with the various electrical areas within a plant environment.
This course is designed for electrical technicians, maintenance planners, and supervisors with operation and maintenance responsibilities in an industrial plant.
Anyone taking this course should familiar with electrical installations in an industrial setting.
