    Fuel Gas System

    Participants in this course will gain an understanding of fuel gas systems used in oil and gas production facilities.  The fuel gas system supplies treated, dry, gaseous fuel for various fired equipment applications within the plant or platform.  The gas can come from a natural gas supply line, off gas from various processes, or a blend of both.  Fuel gas is also used to provide blanket gas to vessels and to supply gas to the pilots on the flare stack.

    A fuel gas system is designed to treat gas in order to meet the requirements of the low-pressure equipment such as gas turbine generator, glycol regenerator system, compressor package, purging, and produced water floatation unit.  Participants will learn specifics of a well-designed fuel gas system and how it should remove the offending contamination, ensuring that it is free of liquid and solids and provides the necessary superheating of the fuel gas.

    This course will provide participants with an understanding of fuel gas system types, safe operation, monitoring, control, and plant safety management requirements found in the oil and gas industry.
    Day 1

    Fuel Gas Operation

    • Flow diagram, P&ID’s, and types of fuel gas systems
    • Process control and monitoring systems
    • Maintenance and inspection

    On the first day, participants will learn about the configuration and operation of fuel gas while adhering to safety compliance and reliability issues faced in day-to-day operational activities.  Process and monitoring criteria will be reviewed to make participants aware of the importance of precise pressure, temperature, and flow control.  Participants will also be given an awareness of regular and preventative maintenance parameters, as well as routine inspection requirements to address associated reliability and corrosion issues.

    Day 2

    Safety, Health, and Environment

    • H2S, fire, and explosion concerns
    • Gas detection and alarms
    • Isolation and response systems

    Day two will focus on the overall safety, health, and environmental issues associated with fuel gas systems.  Particular attention will be being given to H2S, fire, and other explosion hazards.  Monitoring criteria will be reviewed to make participants aware of the importance of immediate detection to ensure safe operation and emergency response.  Participants will also learn about PSD and ESD implications on fuel gas systems to ensure optimum plant and personal safety.

    This course is mainly targeted to process technicians, process technologists, and maintenance personnel.  The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment and materials purchasing, equipment procurement, job planning, and immediate supervisors to the working technicians.

    Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
