Develop measurable skills and capabilities
Utility systems like air and nitrogen systems are critical parts required to operate and maintain an industrial plant setting. Although air is easily accessible there are times when nitrogen has to be manufactured on site. Compressors are required to supply nitrogen and air throughout the plant. Instrumentation is required to monitor and control these systems and they must also be monitored by the emergency shutdown system.
Participants will gain the basic background and knowledge required for the operation, maintenance and management of equipment associated with instrument air, utility air and nitrogen systems. The course will emphasize the importance of these systems and how they impact the safe and efficient operation of the entire plant.
The course will also cover an awareness of preventative maintenance as well as the health, safety and environment impacts associated with these systems.
Utility and Air Systems
On day one, participants will gain an understanding of instrument and utility air systems, the compressors and the associated equipment involved in the process. Routine and shutdown maintenance requirements of the equipment will also be discussed. Participants will learn about the control schemes and the analyzers used to monitor the quality of the air. Discussions will move to air systems and the importance of the ESD system connection to protect it in an emergency situation.
Day 2Nitrogen Systems
Participants will gain an understanding of nitrogen systems, how the nitrogen is distributed throughout the plant and the routine and shutdown maintenance required. They will also learn about the process and equipment used to produce nitrogen. As the course continues on day two, attendees will gain information about the nitrogen system and how it is also connected to the ESD system for its protection on an emergency situation.
This course is mainly targeted to process technicians, process technologists and maintenance personnel. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment and materials purchasing, equipment procurement, job planning as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.
Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
