Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course will provide participants with the necessary knowledge to demonstrate the principles of pipeline operation and maintenance in a mechanical and technological environment.
This course has been designed to provide participants with a basic understanding of maintenance procedures, as well as the related operations of pipelines and their associated equipment. The attendees will learn maintenance techniques based on the preventive and planned maintenance needed to provide a safe and environmentally protected operation. This will provide the participants with the knowledge to assist them in understanding advanced procedures, as well as further training in the field of mechanical knowledge.
The purpose of this course will be to provide the attendees with an understanding of the technology and its applications at a mechanical technician’s level, developing confidence and professional enthusiasm, therefore, increasing their efficiency.
Gas and Petroleum Product Identification
On the first day, participants will learn about the characteristics and properties of gas petroleum products. Specific properties that will be covered include flash point, pour point, specific gravity, heating value, flammability, and the combustion process. The products state (gas or liquid) will also be discussed.
Day 2Gas and Petroleum Product Identification (Cont.)
Day two will continue the discussion of gas and petroleum product identification, focusing on the terminology. Specific terms that will be covered include gas piping, shut-off valves, relief valves, and pipe strain. Participants will also learn about risers, piping extension, concealed piping, and flexible connectors.
Day 3Regulatory Guidelines
Participants will learn about the different regulatory guideline on the third day. Safe gas piping practices and procedures will be covered, along with codes and regulations. Participants will also learn about the transportation and storage of gas cylinders. Materials, pipe coating, prohibited practices, and limitations in certain locations will be discussed as well.
Day 4Installation and Maintenance
Day four of this course will the factors that determine the correct pipe sizing for gas systems over 2 PSI and the purpose and operation of gas venting. Participants will learn about the installation, length of pipe, allowable pressure loss, system capacity, and the number and types of fitting for gas systems over 2 PSI. The day will continue with discussions over gravity and natural venting, spillage, combustion process, carbon monoxide, and power venting and fan assisted venting systems.
Day 5Installation and Maintenance (Cont.)
On the last day, participants will continue to learn about the installation and maintenance of gas venting systems. Gas phase return piping, discharge piping, relief valves, and suction piping are a few topics that will be covered on this day. Participants can also expect to learn about reaming, threading, brushing, brazing, joint compounds, and gasket material. Grades, support outlets, concealed piping, and pipe identification will also be covered on this day.
This course is mainly targeted to mechanical technicians in oil and gas industry working in the field. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment purchasing, procurement, storage, and job planning, as well as immediate supervisors of the working technicians.
Anyone taking this course should have at least some exposure to an oil and gas facility. The participants attending this course should have previously attended the Pipes and Valves course which included pipe fitting and valves maintenance.
