Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course will provide participants with an understanding of cementing technology, used in both primary and remedial cementing operations. Slurry design concepts, additives used, and their purpose will be discussed so that the participants will be able to evaluate proposed designs and understand the purpose and importance additives play in cement system design. The importance of mud removal and methods, which may be chosen to accomplish effective mud removal, will be explored.
Job and procedure design will be developed by the participants and the use of cement simulation and design software will be covered. Job execution will be discussed so that the participants will be able to outline cement jobs to be performed on oil and gas wells. Bulk blending and handling equipment will be discussed to ensure each participant is familiar with basic cementing equipment.
New products and uses of cement in oil and gas wells is an important element of successful well construction. How these new technologies can be used to combat gas migration, lost circulation, and cement quality will be covered in detail. Cement job evaluation will be covered, with specific training on cement evaluation logs and interpretation. Hands on workshops and case studies will be used to explain a number of different cementing topics. Cement performance related to industry standards and how the standards apply to land and deep water operations will also be discussed.
Cement Technology
Basic cementing goals and mud removal methods will be covered. Cement design software will be explained and used to illustrate key design objectives. A lab visit will give participants an understanding of how tests are performed and will show how these test results are related to cement slurry design.
Day 2Equipment and Job Performance
Today participants will learn about cementing equipment, job performance, and important cement properties related to gas migration. Practical sessions will be used to ensure participants are familiar with cement job placement topics. Squeeze cementing theory will be discussed as a foundation for remedial cementing.
Day 3Cement Job Evaluation
On the last day, participants will gain an understanding of the cement bond, cement evaluation log limitations, and log uses. Working with several examples participants will learn how to interpret different logs and make conclusions as to the effectiveness of cement jobs. Applying the theories learned the prior day, participants will gain confidence in calculating plug and squeeze cement jobs. Participants will also learn about the application for cement technology through demonstrations of new and special application technology.
Anyone who wishes to broaden their understanding of well cementing and build on their working knowledge of cement technology and job execution.
Participants will need to have a technical background with a basic understanding of well operations, involving casing installation and cement job design and execution.
