    Course Summary

    • This course follows the official model of the International Maritime Organization (IMO OPRC) to train participants with the information necessary to carry out a rapid, planned, and effective response to an oil spill.
    Course Objective
    • This course is designed for members of the executive, administrative, and managerial staff who may be involved in planning an oil spill response.
    • By completing this course, participants will be better prepared to:
    • Plan and direct an effective response to a major spill.
    • Make critical decisions in emergencies.
    • Communicate and coordinate with different actors.
    • Protect the environment and communities.

    • Classroom - Listening and contributing to discussions and exercises (Group Discussions, Interactions, and workshops).

    • Introduction.
    • Natural processes in the behavior and fate of spilled oil.
    • Spill Contingency Planning
    • Incident management.
    • Risk management.
    • Incident Management System.
    • Risk assessment and sensitivity management.
    • Resource management for an effective response.

    • Completion of Response Activities: Post-Spill Assessment and Closure

    • Legal and financial aspects: Legal liability and compensation.
    • Coordination with authorities and other stakeholders: Relations with government agencies, companies, and affected communities.
    • Relations of administrative, managerial, and executive personnel with the media.
