Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course presents a comprehensive summary of aspects of different chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques including main sources of rock/fluid properties, main types and properties of used chemicals, screening actual field for chemical EOR floodings, required lab tests for chemical flooding, analysis of actual big chemical EOR projects Worldwide. In addition, the course also covers required surface facilities plus required chemical additives and treatments, design and application of pilot and field projects, and advanced hybrid chemical-thermal, and chemical-carbon dioxide processes.
- An overview of different EOR processes and why we need EOR.
- Impact of reservoir rock/fluid properties on polymer EOR applications
- Mechanisms of polymer flooding and concept of Mobility Ratio (M) to apply
- Examples and problems
The day will begin with a quick overview of material of this four-days course. Participants will learn about the different Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) processes, the concepts, limitations, and challenges of these processes. Fundamental science and engineering behind EOR applications will also be covered
- Screening criteria and lab slug design of polymer EOR flooding such as;
- Polymer Types: PAM, HPAM, Copolymer and KYPAM
- Polymer Laboratory Testing: Selection of the Best Polymer
- Examples and problems
On day two of the course participants will discuss screening criteria and lab slug design of chemical EOR flooding. The day will end with polymer laboratory testing, selection of the best polymer, and problems to help the participants use the knowledge obtained throughout their career.
- Five areas of polymer flooding technology
- Alkaline/polymer, surfactant/polymer
- Alkaline/surfactant/polymer (ASP)
- Examples and problems
Participants will learn about polymer flooding technology, alkaline/polymer, surfactant/polymer and alkaline/surfactant/polymer (ASP). Mechanism and maximization of oil recovery by these processes will also be covered. The day will end with example problems on topics discussed throughout the day
- Surface facilities of polymer flooding, Mangala oil field in India
- Simulation of Polymer and chemical EOR using industry E100 and E300.
- Advanced Hybrid Chemical EOR Processes using polymer flooding:
The last day of the course will focus on open discussion and surface facilities and required tests plus different types of industry software for EOR (E100 & E300). The day will end with a discussion of newly developed recovery processes including hybrid chemical-thermal methods of Toe to Heel Air Injection (THAI), THAI with Catalyst (CAPRI), and steam/solvent based hybrid processes.
